Intuitive eating has been growing in popularity since the first edition of the book (called Intuitive Eating) was published in 1995 by two dietitians, Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch. Intuitive eating seems to be everywhere now. Given all the attention on intuitive eating, now is a great time to answer the question- What is intuitive eating and where do I start with intuitive eating?

Simply put, intuitive eating is a return to our natural, instinctual way of eating where we listen to our body's cues to determine what, when, and how much to eat. Although this sounds simple, it can be challenging to execute if we’ve been chronically dieting, stuck in patterns of disordered eating, or in recovery from an eating disorder*.

So where do I start? Great question! Here are two resources to get you started….

1) If you’d like to learn more intuitive eating, a good place to start is by visiting the Intuitive Eating Website. On the website you can find a summary of the ten principles of the intuitive eating, locate a Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor to help you in your journey, and join the online intuitive eating community.

2) Purchase a copy of the 4th edition of Intuitive Eating through by clicking on my paid Amazon Associates link:

3) Another great resource is from a fellow Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Jared Levenson who is the lead writer at Eating Enlightenment, an online eating therapy service. Jared wrote an excellent and helpful blog post called “How to Eat in Line with the Ten Principles of Intuitive Eating.” A blog post like Jared’s is a great way to get acquainted with intuitive eating.
