Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I’m right for your services?

If you’re tired of the control that food and exercise has over your life, you’re probably ready to explore intuitive eating. Many people describe hitting “diet rock bottom” where even the mere thought of going on another diet plan, cutting out another food group, or signing up for another gym membership gives them anxiety. If you’re unsure about whether you’re ready, contact me and we can talk!

Will I lose weight?

I hear that you have concerns about your weight, and this is something I discuss with my clients. Intentional weight loss is not the goal or an expected outcome of intuitive eating. The focus of intuitive eating is to make peace with food and your body. Making peace with food means that you nourish your body with foods that provide you with energy and are satisfying/pleasurable. Respecting and caring for your “here and now” body is an important part of the intuitive eating process. Healing your relationship with food and your body after years of dieting or an eating disorder takes time and patience. I will work with you to set goals that improve all the dimensions of your health: physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual.

Can I learn to be an intuitive eater if I’m in recovery from an eating disorder?

Yes. Intuitive eating can be part of all stages of eating disorder recovery, but our primary focus early in recovery is ensuring that we restore you to a healthy nutritional state. When I work with clients who have eating disorders I will first assess whether you’re a good candidate for outpatient treatment. I regularly communicate with the other providers on your treatment team (e.g., medical doctor, therapist, psychiatrist, registered dietitian, etc.) to ensure you’re receiving the best treatment possible. We will work together to ensure you are regularly eating meals and snacks throughout the day; reduce your reliance on eating disorder behaviors (e.g., purging); guide you to recognize signs of hunger and fullness; help you develop new coping skills; empower you to add foods and practice flexibility in your eating; and help you practice tackling “fear” foods (among many other things!).

How much do you charge for services and do you take health insurance?

My fees for intuitive eating counseling (in-person or virtual) are: $205 for a 60-minute initial consultation and $170 for a 50-minute follow-up session.

I do not take health insurance and payment is due at the time of service. You can, however, check with your health insurance to see if nutritional counseling is partially or fully covered on your particular plan. As an out-of-network provider I may be able to provide you with a “superbill.” The “superbill” shows how much you paid for my services. You can submit the “superbill” to your insurance company to see if they will reimburse you for my services. You are fully responsible for checking your insurance benefits, submitting insurance paperwork, and following up with your insurance company. I do not provide this service.

In addition to major credit cards, I also accept credit cards associated with flexible spending accounts (FSA) or health savings accounts (HSA) if you’re enrolled in either program through your health insurance provider.

Why do I have to give you my credit card information to keep on file?

As a self-employed service provider, I make my living by seeing clients on an appointment basis. When you book an appointment with me, I have reserved this appointment time especially for you. If you do not show up for your appointment, I do not get paid for the time I’ve set aside for you. My practice has a 48 hour (minimum) cancellation policy. If you do not cancel within 48 hours, or don’t show up for your appointment your credit card will be charged for the full cost of the service. Credit card authorization is part of my service agreement and needs to be on file before your first appointment.

Do you offer equity pricing/a reduced fee if I can’t afford your regular fees?

Yes, absolutely! Offering affordable access to mental health services is important to me. Intuitive eating counseling sessions can be costly. I offer negotiated reduced fees on a limited basis. Please reach out and ask if I have spots available.

I don’t live in Georgia. Can I still work with you?

I hold a multistate professional nursing license, meaning that I can practice in more than 30 U.S. states. Please click this link to learn more about my multistate license. If your state is part of the multistate licensing compact, I will check with your state’s board of nursing to ensure that I meet all of the state’s requirements. If so, we can work together virtually. There are a few requirements that I have when working with out-of-state clients to keep my clients safe: 1) You need to have a primary care provider (physician), psychiatrist, or primary therapist that you see on a consistent basis and that you will give me permission to communicate with; 2) We will work together to create a safety plan for you that lists the contact information for all of your providers and community resources in case you need immediate assistance; and 3) You will identify an individual to serve as an emergency contact and give me permission to keep this person’s contact information on file.
